Navigating Health Care Regulations: The Role of AI and Machine Learning in Medicine

In a recent session, Benjamin Zegarelli, Of Counsel, and Pat Ouellette, Associate, discussed the regulations that govern medical devices and software. They provided insights on how to stay informed and navigate the ever-changing landscape of health care regulations. During the discussion, they explored various topics related to AI/ML devices, including the FDA’s current approach to regulating these devices.

The session also covered other health care applications of AI/ML, potential pitfalls and emerging regulations for EMR developers, non-discrimination requirements related to health care provider use of AI by the Office for Civil Rights. Additionally, they discussed the recent White House AI Executive Order and the sections relevant to the use of AI in health care. They also covered proposed legislation at both the state and federal levels.

This session provided valuable insights into the complex world of health care regulations and how they impact the use of AI in the industry.
