Kansas devises plan to persuade Chiefs to move out of Missouri

Kansas City Chiefs’ Future in Limbo: Will They Stay or Go?

Kansas City Chiefs may be considering a relocation, but it seems that they may not be moving too far. Recent reports from the Topeka Capital-Journal and Sports Business Daily suggest that legislators in Kansas are working on a proposal to entice the team to stay across state lines. After Missouri’s recent failed vote to extend a sales tax to fund stadium renovations, Kansas has opened the door for financial incentives without needing a ballot measure. The plan is to secure at least $1 billion to build a new stadium and practice facility for the team.

The Chiefs’ current lease expires after the 2030 season, making this an opportune time to explore potential moves. However, if Kansas can successfully lure the team, it would create competition among neighboring communities for their presence. This approach could avoid costly relocation scenarios involving changing the team name from “Kansas City Chiefs” to something like “San Antonio Chiefs” or “Austin Chiefs” or other locations.

Ultimately, the goal is to keep the Chiefs in the region and ensure their long-term presence in a new facility. With Kansas offering financial incentives and creating competition among neighboring communities, it seems that keeping the Chiefs in Kansas City may be more feasible than relocating them entirely.
