Walmart Settles Class Action Lawsuit, Closes Health Clinics in Five States: What’s Next for the Retail Giant?
In recent news, Walmart has reached a $45 million settlement with customers in a class action lawsuit that alleged inaccurate pricing for certain products. This ends the legal dispute between the company and its customers.
Walmart also announced the closure of its health clinics in five states, including Texas. After five years of offering low-cost medical care to patients, Walmart has decided to close its 51 health clinics and its telehealth business due to unsustainability in their business model. The closure will impact communities in Texas, including Fort Worth, Garland, and Tyler. Since the first clinics opened in 2019, the Walmart health centers have provided various services such as medical, dental, and behavioral health care.
Moving forward, Walmart plans to concentrate on its pharmacies and vision centers across the United States. Its pharmacies now offer testing and treatment services, access to specialty medication, medication therapy management, and health screenings. Additionally, Walmart has introduced new features at its vision centers such as a virtual try-on capability using augmented reality.
