Barcelona and other Big Clubs Miss Out on the Club World Cup Due to New Format and Limitations
The recent loss of Barcelona in the Champions League has brought about a change in their participation in the Club World Cup. Despite initially qualifying, they will now miss out on the tournament that will take place in the United States from June 15 to July 13. This is due to the new format of the tournament which occurs every four years and features 32 teams.
In addition to Barcelona, other big clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, and AC Milan also failed to qualify due to limitations on the number of entrants per country. However, there are still many notable teams participating in the tournament. Among them are Chelsea, Real Madrid, Man City, Bayern, PSG, Inter, Porto, Dortmund, Benfica, Juventus and Atletico Madrid.
Brazilian teams Flamengo, Palmeiras and Fluminense as well as Argentinean sides River Plate and Boca Juniors will also be present. Seattle Sounders, Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal and Japanese club Urawa Red Diamonds are also set to participate. However, some notable absences include Inter Miami with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr team.
