From Panama to Frisco: Ryan Swanson’s Journey to the PGA Professional Championship

Ryan Swanson, an accomplished golfer and resident of Panama, is preparing for a road trip to Frisco, Texas at the end of the month. As the co-owner of Pinehurst Golf Club and head coach of the St. Bonaventura University golf team, Swanson has secured his spot in the PGA Professional Championship by finishing in a tie for second place in the Western New York PGA Section Championship last year. His impressive performance earned him a spot in the field of over 300 golfers competing in the upcoming event.

Swanson’s brother, Nolan, will be accompanying him as his caddie. As a coach, Swanson has made significant strides in re-energizing the St. Bonaventura golf program. He has played a key role in recruiting and developing a talented group of golfers including Christian Chapman, Danny Gianniny and Jack Geise who have set numerous program records. In particular, Jack Angelucci set a school record for rounds of par or better in a season during the 2022-23 season while Erik Stauderman and Angelucci both had impressive showings at the 2023 Atlantic 10 Championship. Furthermore, several players on Swanson’s team have received academic honors which highlights their academic achievements alongside their athletic prowess.

His upcoming participation in the PGA Professional Championship serves as testament to his skills and commitment to his sport.
