New Visiting Assistant Professor Position at UMBC’s Department of Africana Studies Seeking Expert in African-Centered Psychology
The Department of Africana Studies at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) is currently seeking applicants for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in Psychological Science with a focus on African-centered or Black Psychology. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Psychological Science and will incorporate this field into their teaching, research, and service. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with African American or African diasporic communities using a community-based participatory approach, as well as those with advanced ABD degrees and university-level teaching experience.
Applicants who are interested in areas such as culture, mental health disparities education, positive youth development, family science, racial identity, racial stress and trauma, diversity science, and intergroup relations are encouraged to apply. Candidates should also have experience with multi-disciplinary or collaborative research approaches and be committed to creating student-centered learning environments that are active and engaging. The successful candidate will teach five courses per academic year at UMBC’s Africana Studies Department, with the possibility of cross-listing some courses with the Psychology Department and School of Social Work.
