Frontier Softball Team Clinches OVAC 2A Championship with Stellar Defensive Performance
In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, the Frontier softball team clinched the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference 2A championship with a 1-0 win over Caldwell at J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex in Wheeling, W.Va. The Cougars’ defense was outstanding, with Kaycee Berentz delivering a standout pitching performance that allowed just one hit and struck out 12 batters.
Despite their best efforts, Caldwell was unable to keep up with Frontier’s offensive prowess, with Kate Congleton’s key hit in the first inning scoring Gracie Mendenhall for the only run of the game. Evelyn Armstrong also contributed with a hit, but could not add to their tally against Caldwell’s Makayla Mumaw, who tallied 10 strikeouts.
The victory dethroned Caldwell, previous winners of the OVAC titles, and set Frontier on course for further success as they prepare to face Shenandoah before heading into the sectional play next week. The team’s strong performance in the final will undoubtedly boost their confidence heading into the next phase of competition.
The upcoming tournament will see Frontier take on Tuscarawas Central Catholic in the sectional semifinals, with their sights set on further success following their championship win. The team’s impressive display of skill and teamwork has earned them recognition as one of the top teams in the region and they are determined to continue their streak of success in future competitions.
