Unstoppable Athletics: Berlin Dominates in Track and Field

In baseball, Windber dominated Portage with a 16-0 win in just four innings on Monday. Andrew Scalia led the way with two hits, including a grand slam and four RBIs. Lucas Oleksa also contributed with two hits, including a 3-run home run and four RBIs. Cole Mash and Lucas Rummel each drove in a pair of runs and Dawson Himes earned the win on the mound.

In another game, Blacklick Valley defeated Meyersdale 2-1, with Karter Schurg providing a hit and an RBI for Meyersdale. Turkeyfoot Valley also secured a win, beating Calvary Christian 7-2 behind Bryce Nicholson’s complete game on the mound and two RBIs from Heath Nicholson.

On Sunday, in the Gene Schultz Memorial Tournament, Bishop McCort defeated Conemaugh Township 5-0 in the championship game despite Zack Petree’s three hits for Conemaugh Township. In softball, Meyersdale cruised to an 18-3 victory over Blacklick Valley on Saturday night, with Jessica Daughton and Marcella Dupre leading the way with three hits and three RBIs each. Laurel Daniels, Amber Long, Morgan Walters, Izabella Donaldson, and Zoe Hetz all contributed to the offensive outburst.

In track and field on Friday night against Everett at Berlin Brothersvalley High School, Berlin had mixed results as they won 98-50 among girls while boys fell short by losing their match by 119-30. Multiple athletes from Berlin had standout performances including Mikaela Glessner who led both teams in points scored during her race events; Deborah Bozovich who won both long jump events; Zoraeja Miller who ran personal best times; Lexi Fairman who set a new school record in shot put; Lexi Foor who was second place overall in shot put; Addisyn Glessner who broke her own school record in javelin throw; Connor Montgomery who won pole vault event for boys team.
