Three police officers injured during a SWAT intervention in the United States; wanted gunman shot dead

Tragic Shooting In Kenner Leaves Community On Edge, Police Search For Suspected Burglar

The police were called to a residential area in Kenner, Louisiana on Sunday morning for shots fired. When they arrived, two men were found wounded in a car. They had been on their way to church when they were shot. The neighborhood where the incident occurred was rundown and had few signs of maintenance.

The police conducted a search and linked one of the houses to a family named Lathers. Matthew Lathers, 31, was suspected of injuring a man during a burglary in the area. A warrant was issued and a SWAT unit was called in to execute it. After hours of sporadic gunfire, Lathers eventually appeared at the front door armed with a rifle. He opened fire, injuring five people, including police officers. One of the injured officers was still hospitalized Sunday evening.

The investigation into Lathers’ actions is ongoing, but it is believed that he may be responsible for additional shootings in the state.
