Former quarterbacks Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason replaced by Matt Ryan on ‘NFL Today’

Exciting Changes for ‘The NFL Today’: Matt Ryan Joins, Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason Step Down

The 2024 NFL Draft is fast approaching, and the first night’s picks are sure to be both surprising and expected. Meanwhile, there are some changes coming to CBS’s NFL pregame show, “The NFL Today.”

Matt Ryan, the 2016 league MVP, has joined the show as a new analyst. Ryan retired from the NFL after leading the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl last season. He also joined CBS Sports as an NFL game analyst last season.

On the other hand, two longtime veterans of “The NFL Today,” Phil Simms and Boomer Esiason, will not be returning for the upcoming season. Simms had been with CBS for nearly two decades, while Esiason had been with the show for even longer. However, Esiason will continue his association with CBS through his WFAN radio show.

Ryan expressed his excitement about joining “The NFL Today,” stating that he played 15 seasons in the NFL and made four Pro Bowl appearances. He also led the Falcons to an NFC Championship and Super Bowl 51. Ryan looks forward to upholding the iconic standard set by his predecessors on “The NFL Today.”
