Coldiretti is leading wine for agri-food exports at Vinitaly

From Vineyards to Profits: Wine Industry Thrives Amidst Global Conflicts”.

In the midst of two ongoing conflicts around the world, Vinitaly saw some encouraging statistics that highlighted the strength of the wine industry. Over the past 20 years, wine exports have experienced a remarkable growth of 188%, nearly tripling in value to reach an impressive 7.8 billion euros. This makes wine the leading Italian agri-food product exported abroad, as noted by Coldiretti President Ettore Prandini.

During the 56th edition of Vinitaly, there was also a noticeable rise in new generation wine producers. The wine sector has become increasingly popular among businesses owned by individuals under 35 years old. Coldiretti reports that there are currently around 5,500 Italian farmers in this age group who are involved in wine production, with one out of every ten companies owned by young individuals having a vineyard.

One significant trend observed during Vinitaly 2024 was the emergence of wine tourism as a growing industry. In 2023, a staggering total of 6 million nights were spent among vineyards by Italian and foreign wine tourists staying at various agritourism facilities, bed & breakfasts and holiday homes located near vineyards. Additionally, Coldiretti notes that 15 million tourists had cellar experiences last year, contributing to the impressive turnover of €2.5 billion for Italy’s wine tourism industry.
