Libyan Parliament Prepared to Conduct Elections in 2024

Libya Plans Simultaneous Presidential and Legislative Elections: A Step Towards Peaceful Governance

In a major announcement, the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, has revealed that the Council is preparing to hold simultaneous presidential and legislative elections before the end of the year. Saleh made this statement during the Arab Parliament meetings in Cairo and emphasized that Libya is ready for this important step.

Saleh highlighted that necessary laws and regulations have been issued for holding the elections, and the Election Commission is fully prepared for the process. He also underscored the importance of international support in ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process in Libya.

Despite these developments, Saleh expressed concerns about individuals who are reluctant to relinquish power in Libya. He mentioned that discussions have been held with the State Council to establish an agreement on forming a new government. The proposed mechanism involves recommending candidates by 20 members of the State Council and 10 members of the House of Representatives, who would then advance to a final selection process in the House of Representatives.

Overall, Saleh’s announcement marks a significant development in Libya’s political transition and reflects a commitment to democratic principles and peaceful governance in the country.
