I am NAMIWALKS” San Diego Event Promotes Mental Wellness and Encourages Support for Those in Need.

San Diego residents are invited to join the annual San Diego NAMI Walks and Mental Wellness Expo on Saturday, April 27, 2024. The event, which takes place at Liberty Station in NTC Park, is organized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness in partnership with the County’s Health and Human Services Agency.

The theme of this year’s walk is “I am NAMIWALKS,” and it aims to raise awareness about mental health, combat the stigma associated with these topics, and provide support for one another. Dr. Luke Bergmann, Director of County Behavioral Health Services, emphasized the importance of prioritizing emotional well-being every day and how this event brings communities together to make a difference.

The day begins with a free community walk around Preble Field at 8:15 a.m., followed by an opening ceremony. The Mental Wellness Expo will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., featuring over 100 exhibitor booths offering resources for families, children, military members, and veterans. There will also be hands-on activities designed to improve mental health well-being.

Some of the county-hosted booths include an affirmation potting station, stigma busting photo booth, Naloxone distribution station, face painting station, children’s activity booth, and Tai-Chi demonstrations. Participants can register for the NAMIWalks and Mental Wellness Expo on the event website ahead of time.
