Curiosity’s Expedition: Analyzing and Capturing Stunning Views on Mars

On the first sol of our weekend trip, we will have Curiosity use ChemCam to analyze several bedrock targets located near the rover. This analysis will help us understand the different geologic materials present along our driving route. The next two sols will be dedicated to capturing stunning views from our current location. We will start by using Mastcam to take a multispectral observation of a target called “Ben Hee” that is close to the rover. Then we will move on to taking larger Mastcam stereo mosaics to document the edge of the Greenheugh pediment and nearby sulfate unit buttes. Additionally, we will use the ChemCam Remote Micro Imager (RMI) to capture long-distance mosaics of interesting areas within the sulfate unit in the distance.

After completing our scientific observations at this spot, we will begin our journey to our next location early next week.
