Xi Jinping urges Antony Blinken to uphold America’s promises and address existing challenges.

China and US Leaders Emphasize Cooperation to Resolve Bilateral Issues on 45th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties

During a recent meeting in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the need for cooperation and respect between China and the United States in order to resolve unresolved issues in their bilateral relationship. Xi highlighted the importance of seeking common ground and managing differences to uphold their partnership without causing harm to one another.

The meeting took place on the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the US, with Xi calling for both countries to focus on mutual benefit rather than competition. He expressed China’s desire to see a confident, open, prosperous, and developing United States. Xi also acknowledged the changing international landscape and the need for dialogue to manage differences and promote cooperation between the two nations.

During the meeting, Xi referenced his previous conversation with US President Joe Biden, acknowledging progress made while recognizing remaining issues that needed to be addressed. Meanwhile, Wang Yi, China’s counterpart to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, warned of negative factors increasing tension between the two countries. However, Blinken assured that the US would address areas of disagreement clearly and directly.

The visit of Blinken followed US Senate approval of a bill requiring Chinese company ByteDance to sell TikTok within nine months. In response, ByteDance stated its intention not to sell TikTok despite US legislation, planning instead to challenge it in court. This development has added tension to US-China relations and has implications for technology companies operating between the two countries. Despite these challenges, both China and the United States expressed a commitment to addressing issues and promoting cooperation in order to achieve a stable and beneficial relationship.
