Alumni Empowered to Advocate for Mental Health Through Sharing Their Personal Stories

Rising Mental Health Advocate: Utilizing Psychology Education to Break the Stigma and Educate Others

As a mental health advocate, her primary objective is to help people by destigmatizing conversations about mental health. She achieved this goal by sharing her personal experience with mental illness and offering mental health education to various audiences. Her passion for helping others began at an early age, which led her to pursue a degree in psychology.

Her journey with Kids Minds Matter began while completing her associate’s degree at Florida SouthWestern College in 2020, where she volunteered for the organization. Later, as a behavioral health intern at FGCU, she continued her involvement with the organization and helped organize events aimed at raising awareness about mental health.

After graduating summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2022, she sees her degree as a stepping stone to further her advocacy work. Prior to college, she was unaware that being a mental health advocate was a viable option but now hopes to utilize her degree to provide mental health education. Through both the knowledge gained from her coursework and her personal mental health journey, she aims to make a positive impact in spreading awareness and understanding about mental health challenges.
