San Luis Obispo County provides support and raises awareness for Mental Health Awareness Month

From Awareness to Action: Transitions-Mental Health Association’s Commitment to Mental Health Wellness in San Luis Obispo

In the United States, more than 25 million adults suffer from mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression. One of these individuals is Brooke Clever, a health navigator at Transitions-Mental Health Association in San Luis Obispo. Clever helps patients establish recovery goals and strategies by connecting with them on a personal level, sharing her own experiences with mental health challenges.

Last year, Transitions-Mental Health Association provided services to over 5,300 individuals and their families. The organization believes that it is crucial to raise awareness about mental health issues, which is why they dedicate an entire month to mental health awareness each year. Various resources are available for those in need, including wellness centers, hotlines, and more.

Jill Bolster-White, the executive director at Transitions-Mental Health Association, emphasizes the importance of community support for individuals struggling with mental health challenges. Clever agrees and finds that sharing her own journey can help eliminate stigmas surrounding mental health.

If you suspect someone you know is struggling with mental health issues, there are resources available to help them. You can call the 24-hour Central Coast Hotline at 1-800-783-0607 or visit their website for additional information. Every May, Transitions-Mental Health Association hosts the Open Minds Community Art Show to promote mental wellness through art. This month, they will also be hosting three wellness center open houses in different locations to provide support and resources for individuals seeking help with their mental health.
