Day 1292 on Mars: Rough Terrain Ahead

Navigating the Red Planet: Mars Rover Opportunity’s Continued Journey Through Rugged Terrain with Scientific Analysis and Exploration

Today, the Mars Rover Opportunity is set to continue its journey across the Naukluft Plateau. The rugged terrain requires careful planning of the course to ensure safe navigation. Scientists have scheduled several activities for today’s plan, including using the ChemCam and Mastcam to observe and analyze the local bedrock. Additionally, the Mastcam will be used to create a mosaic to document the sedimentary structures in the area.

Data recovered from the missing MRO pass on Sol 1290 confirmed that the 23 meter drive went smoothly. The team remains focused on gathering as much data as possible to further explore the Martian terrain. Following the drive, post-drive imaging will be conducted to prepare for future targeting and potential contact science in the weekend plan.
