Elementary School in Garden City to Host Event for National Children’s Mental Health Day

Green Ribbon Award for Garden City Elementary School; Breaking Down Mental Health Stigma in Rhode Island Schools

Garden City Elementary School has recently been awarded a Green Ribbon Award from the U.S. Department of Education for their efforts in promoting sustainability and wellness among students and staff. This award recognizes schools that have made significant strides in reducing their environmental impact and improving the health and well-being of their students and staff.

In honor of National Children’s Mental Health Day, school leaders are working to break down the stigma surrounding discussions about children’s mental health. During the event, state and local officials will meet with Dr. Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, to discuss strategies for promoting open conversations about mental health and providing support for students, families, and caregivers.

The event will focus on mental health awareness, with leaders engaging in conversations with students about their well-being. The goal is to provide resources and intervention opportunities within Rhode Island schools to support the mental well-being of children in the community. The new school features wellness spaces that promote mental health, which Dr. Delphin-Rittmon will have the opportunity to tour during the event.

This event coincides with National Mental Health Awareness Month and is a significant step towards supporting the mental well-being of children in the community. It is an important reminder that we all have a role to play in creating a supportive environment for children’s mental health.
