Germany’s Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Pledges Support for Ukraine and its Neighbors in Fight Against Russian Aggression

German Vice Chancellor and Economy Minister Robert Habeck arrived in Kiev on Thursday for a visit focusing on Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, emergency aid, and strengthening the country’s economy. The trip coincides with Germany’s upcoming Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin, which will be hosted by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Upon arrival, Habeck emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine in its “fight for freedom,” highlighting the country’s struggle for self-determination, territorial integrity, and European values against Russian aggression. In Kiev, he is scheduled to meet with President Zelensky, Deputy Prime Minister and Economics Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, and Energy Minister German Galushchenko, among others.

Habeck also expressed Germany’s commitment to supporting its neighboring countries like Moldova that are threatened by Moscow. He will travel to Moldova after his visit to Kiev to meet with Prime Minister Dorin Recean. Moldova, a pro-Western country aspiring to join the EU, sees itself as threatened by Moscow and shares a border with Ukraine. This trip underscores Germany’s efforts to promote stability and prosperity in the region while standing firm against Russian aggression.
