Former Saxony Headmaster Captured in Cambodia for Child Sexual Abuse: A Long-Awaited Breakthrough in Justice
A former headmaster from Saxony, who was convicted of serious child sexual abuse, has been captured in Cambodia over a year after escaping. The 55-year-old man was arrested in the Asian country at the beginning of March and has been held in custody in Dresden for three and a half weeks, as announced by the police in Görlitz.
In May 2021, the former headmaster of a school in Mücka in the Görlitz district had abused a 13-year-old student in the school library. Prior to this incident, schoolgirls had made similar allegations in 2016 and 2018, but the proceedings were discontinued by the public prosecutor due to lack of evidence. However, after the last incident, the case was reopened and he fled abroad.
Following his conviction, he booked flights to Cambodia and opened a guesthouse there. Despite investigators being unable to extradite him from Cambodia to Germany, they found an alternative solution when his visa expired on March 6th. He was subsequently arrested by local police and flown to Bangkok in Thailand before being taken into custody by officers from the Saxony State Criminal Police Office and the Görlitz Police Department.
