Exploring the Future of Artificial Intelligence: NMDSI Symposium Returns to UWM Student Union

The Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute, a collaborative effort between the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquette University, and Northwestern Mutual, is hosting its second annual symposium on April 24 at the UWM Student Union. This event is open to the public and aims to explore the changing landscape of artificial intelligence and its potential impact on innovation and society.

The symposium will kick off with a fireside chat featuring NMDSI leadership, UWM Chancellor Mark Mone, Marquette President Michael Lovell, and Northwestern Mutual Chief Customer Officer Christian Mitchell. Following the chat, there will be a keynote address by Chris Wiggins, a Columbia University professor and author, discussing the role of data-empowered products and automated decision systems in shaping our political, professional, and personal experiences.

Throughout the day, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about various aspects of AI from experts in industry and academia. They will also connect with others in the AI and data science field over networking opportunities. For those unable to attend in person, the event will be livestreamed for remote viewing.

NMDSI is dedicated to building a technology ecosystem that positions southeastern Wisconsin as a national center for technology research, business development, and talent acquisition. Since its establishment in 2018, NMDSI has been at the forefront of promoting academic learning in data science and technology while driving innovation in areas such as AI ethics, behavioral economics financial literacy health disparities research projects that leverage data science to address significant societal issues with both local national significance.
