Unpack Your Feelings: A Journey Through Mental Health in Chicago’s Immersive Art Installation

A new exhibit in Chicago is focusing on mental health and providing visitors with a unique and immersive experience that explores their emotions. Located at Chicago’s Water Tower, the exhibit is designed to provoke introspection and leave attendees transformed by their journey.

Janine Williams, the creator of the exhibit, drew inspiration from her personal mental health journey to create the 5,000-square-foot interactive art installation on the fourth floor of Water Tower Place. Upon entering the exhibit, guests are greeted with a disco ball dreamland featuring a 360-degree photo booth, setting the tone for the emotional journey they are about to embark on.

The interactive Mood Room is at the heart of the exhibit, where visitors are guided through exercises meant to prompt reflection and emotional processing. Carefully curated colors throughout the space aim to influence and amplify emotional experiences. Visitors can also explore a Secret Garden and visit Kites Ice Diner, showcasing the works of artist Kristopher Kites from Chicago’s South Side.

Williams, who struggled with depression, wanted to create a safe and colorful space for individuals like herself to tap into their emotions in a fun way. The exhibit aims to provide visitors with an immersive experience that helps them connect with their feelings and gain a better understanding of themselves.
