Nicole Hernandez: A UF Biochemistry Student’s Journey in Healthcare through Medi-Gators
UF biochemistry undergraduate student Nicole Hernandez was actively involved in Medi-Gators, a shadowing program where she served on the events committee and as a student ambassador. Through this program, she was able to virtually shadow health care professionals, which strengthened her resolve to continue on the pre-med track. Hernandez found it eye-opening to see how teams work together and develop essential communication skills for success.
The Medi-Gators program aimed to provide mentorship to its members and offered valuable exposure and experiences in the healthcare field. Hernandez gained insights into the various career options available in healthcare through this program, which can be challenging to navigate. The program provided her with a better understanding of the different paths she can take in her pursuit of a medical career.
Hernandez is set to graduate in May 2024 and plans to apply to medical school after taking a gap year. She believes that the experience of shadowing healthcare professionals has helped her develop important skills that will be useful in her future career.
