The Bakery on Broadway: Revitalizing Audubon County and Celebrating Small Business Success with Senator Joni Ernst”.

Audubon County is home to The Bakery on Broadway, a small business that has been recognized by U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) as her Small Business of the Week. Since her election, Ernst plans to highlight a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties, and The Bakery on Broadway was chosen for its delicious baked goods, custom cakes and for bringing a taste of the West Coast to Audubon.

The Bakery on Broadway was founded by Kate Hargens, who aimed to rejuvenate downtown Audubon and provide a space for the community to come together. With a background in food science and a licensed at-home baker, Hargens has been actively involved in the community since its establishment in 2020. She served as president of the Children’s Nest Childcare Center and was part of the fundraising committee for the Audubon Rec Center. In recognition of her dedication, she was named the 2016 Citizen of the Year by the Audubon Chamber of Commerce.

The Bakery on Broadway has become a hub for events like “What’s Happening in Audubon” forums and “Art on Broadway” exhibitions, providing support to local artists while also offering unique baked goods and custom cakes that have become popular throughout the county.
