Wyatt Langford placed on the injured list by Rangers

Texas Ranger Rookie Injured, Infielder Ornelas Called Up to Replace Him on Injured List

Texas Rangers rookie outfielder Wyatt Langford has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain. The decision was made prior to the start of a four-game series in Oakland and was retroactive to the day after Langford left a game in Kansas City. While playing in a game against the Kansas City Royals, Langford showed signs of injury when he slowed down while running to first base.

Infielder Jonathan Ornelas, who has been playing for Triple-A Round Rock, has been called up to replace Langford on the roster. In 24 starts this season, Ornelas has a batting average of .278 with two home runs and 11 RBIs. He made his Major League debut last season, playing in eight games for the Rangers.

Langford, who was the fourth overall pick in the MLB amateur draft last summer, had been starting in 31 of the team’s first 34 games as both the designated hitter and left fielder. Despite having only played one season with Texas, Langford ranks second among American League rookies with 26 hits and third in reaching base 38 times.
