Hip replacement enables man to walk normally after 40 years of limping

Overcoming Limiting Condition: Mr. Dong’s Journey to Normalcy through Minimally Invasive Hip Replacement Surgery

Mr. Dong, 52 years old, has been dealing with ankylosing spondylitis of the hip since childhood. Despite trying various medications to alleviate the pain, his condition gradually worsened over time, causing his legs to be 4 cm apart and him to limp. However, after receiving an artificial hip replacement using the SuperPATH incision technique, he is now able to walk normally.

Suffering from hip ankylosing spondylitis since the age of 9, Mr. Dong experienced pain and stiffness in his joints, limiting his ability to run, jump, or engage in heavy work. Over time, deformities in the right hip joint and a shorter right leg developed due to adhesive inflammation. A recent MRI revealed severe right hip osteoarthritis due to years of chronic inflammation.

Under the care of MSc.BSc.CKI Dang Khoa Khoa, Head of the Department of Trauma and Orthopedics at Tam Anh General Hospital, Mr. Dong underwent a minimally invasive procedure that preserved soft tissues, muscles, and joint capsules using customized TraumaCad software to select an artificial joint that matched his body perfectly. Post-surgery rehabilitation was emphasized by Dr. Hoc to restore gait, improve muscle strength and increase joint mobility while reducing the risk of post-operative complications. Within three days of surgery, Mr. Dong experienced significant relief from pain and regained the ability to walk easily without any limping or unevenness between his legs.

Dr. Hoc highlighted the importance of preserving a patient’s natural body parts in any medical treatment while resorting to surgery only when necessary. Hip joint replacement is a major procedure that offers significant benefits in alleviating symptoms and improving quality of life while preventing complications that may affect other parts of the body.

Modern medical technology and advancements in surgical techniques have made post-operative recovery smoother with minimal pain and reduced recovery time for patients like Mr
