White House Declines Hamas’s Proposal for Five-Year Truce with Israel

White House Condemns Hamas’s Proposal for Palestinian State under Terrorist Control

John Kirby, the National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator, has stated that the United States will not support the creation of a Palestinian state under Hamas control. This statement was made in response to an interview given by Khalil al-Hayya to the Associated Press. Al-Hayya is a member of the Hamas politburo and serves as the formal deputy of Hamas head in Gaza Yahya Sinouar. He is also part of the Hamas delegation involved in negotiations with Israel through intermediaries.

In an interview with the AP, al-Hayya outlined Hamas’s proposal for the creation of an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. He suggested that in exchange for a five-year truce, Hamas would disband its militant wing and transition into a political party. Despite recent attacks on October 7, which caused significant damage to Gaza, al-Hayya stated that Hamas does not regret these actions, as they achieved their goal of bringing attention to the Palestinian issue.

John Kirby spoke about this issue while aboard Air Force One and condemned Hamas as a terrorist organization. He emphasized that Hamas leaders have the power to end the conflict immediately by releasing hostages and respecting ceasefire agreements. Kirby’s comments underscored the United States’ stance on Hamas and its ongoing conflict with Israel in the region.

Al-Hayya’s proposal for peace was met with criticism from many countries around the world who view Hamas as a violent organization that must first renounce terrorism before any talks can begin.

The situation in Gaza remains tense, with ongoing clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians protesting against their occupation of land they see as rightfully theirs. The international community continues to urge both sides to come to a peaceful resolution but so far efforts have been unsuccessful.

It is clear that finding peace between Israelis and Palestinians will require significant effort from all parties involved, including diplomats like Kirby who are tasked with negotiating on behalf of their countries.

In conclusion, while al-Hayya presented a proposal for peace in Gaza, it remains unclear whether his vision can be realized without significant changes on both sides of
