Pet cremation company looking to grow

Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory: Meeting the Rising Demand for Final Arrangements for Pets in Roanoke with Expansion Plans

Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory in Roanoke has experienced a significant increase in demand for their services, prompting the business to request permission to expand their facilities. The company specializes in final arrangements for pets and plans to install a third animal cremation unit and more cold storage to accommodate the growing need for their services.

Marjene Schrader, the manager of Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory, expressed the need for expansion, stating that they are currently “busting at the seams” and have outgrown their current building. The proposed $308,000 building addition will help them better serve their clients and meet the rising demand for their services.

The city planning commission is set to hold a hearing on May 13 to consider the request for expansion. If authorized, the owners of Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory plan to move forward with the construction of the new facility. While the cost of the equipment needed for the expansion was not disclosed, the owners are prepared to make the investment to improve their services.

Oakey’s Pet Funeral Home and Crematory charges for cremations based on the weight of the animal, with prices varying across nine different zones. The charge for cremating an animal weighing between 6 and 20 pounds is currently set at $182. Schrader mentioned that cremations are conducted on a one pet at a time basis, ensuring that each animal receives individualized care and attention. The business, which has been operating for 14 years, has become a trusted resource for pet owners in the Roanoke area in their time of need.
