LSU’s Malik Nabers joins the New York Giants

New York Giants Draft Malik Nabers to Fill Odell Beckham Jr.’s Void: Filling a Need for an Explosive Receiving Threat Despite Struggles Offensively.

On Thursday night, the New York Giants selected Malik Nabers with the No. 6 pick in the NFL draft. The team is hoping to fill a void they have been missing since Odell Beckham Jr. was picked in the first round back in 2014, by providing an explosive receiving threat. Nabers is known for his physicality, elite ball skills, and route-running ability after an impressive season at LSU where he caught 89 passes for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns.

With quarterback Daniel Jones recovering from ACL surgery and his availability for the start of the season uncertain, some thought the Giants might trade up to select a quarterback. However, with Chicago, Washington, and New England all taking quarterbacks with the top three picks, the Giants stuck with Nabers. Jones, who will turn 27 soon, has led the team to one playoff berth in 2022 since becoming the starter in 2019 as the No. 6 overall pick.

Despite their struggles offensively last season and missing out on making it to playoffs after finishing with a 6-11 record, Nabers will join a receiving group that includes Darius Slayton, Wan’Dale Robinson, Jalin Hyatt, and Isaiah Hodgins. The last Giants receiver to surpass 1
