The 2024 NFL Draft sees a surge in quarterbacks and offensive players taken in top 14 picks of first round

First Time Ever: Six Quarterbacks Selected in First 12 Picks at NFL Draft in Detroit

The NFL Draft on Thursday night in Detroit was marked by a historic moment as six quarterbacks were selected in the first 12 picks for the first time ever. The trend reflects the current emphasis on offense in the NFL, with quarterbacks being more valuable than ever due to rule changes and the evolution of the passing game.

Among the top 12 selections, other offensive players included wide receivers Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze, offensive tackles Joe Alt and JC Latham, tight end Brock Bowers, and quarterbacks J.J. McCarthy and Bo Nix.

One of the biggest surprises came when the Falcons selected Michael Penix Jr. as the No. 8 overall pick. This move raised eyebrows as Atlanta had recently signed Kirk Cousins to a $180 million deal. The Falcons seem to be following the Packers’ lead when it comes to their approach in handling quarterbacks.

While expected top quarterbacks like Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maybe were chosen early, there were still some surprises in store for draft fans. Overall, it was an exciting night for football fans as they watched history being made on live TV.
