Armand Duplantis shatters pole vault world record for eighth time, reaching a height of 6.24 meters

New World Record for Armand Duplantis at Xiamen Diamond League Meeting, Sets Sights on Olympic Gold

The first Diamond League meeting of the season took place in Xiamen, China and saw Sweden’s Armand Duplantis set his eighth world record in pole vaulting. At just 24 years old, Duplantis cleared the bar at an impressive 6.24 meters, a feat that put him eight centimeters ahead of anyone else in the discipline. Not only did this underline his dominance, but it also meant he surpassed his competitors by more than 40 centimeters.

In an interview with CNN in April, Duplantis made it clear that he hasn’t reached his peak yet and is still determined to be dominant in the sport. As he celebrated with his team and the crowd after his record-breaking performance, it was clear that he has a lot left in the tank. Meanwhile, Christian Coleman from the USA won the men’s 100 meters, followed closely by his compatriot Fred Kerley and Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake. In a thrilling women’s 200 meters race, 19-year-old Torrie Lewis surprised everyone by winning her first Diamond League victory, while USA’s Sha’Carri Richardson finished second after a strong push from the Australian contender.
