Empowering Creativity and Innovation: Vietnam’s Path to Becoming a Regional Innovation Center
The United Nations representative in Vietnam highlighted the importance of creativity and innovation in order to transform Vietnam into a regional innovation center. Ms. Paluline Tamesis, the UN Representative in Vietnam, made these remarks during the 2024 World Creativity and Innovation Day response ceremony organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Tamesis commended Vietnam for its progress and potential as evidenced by its ranking on the global innovation index (GII), and emphasized that creativity is not limited to scientists but also includes young people and ethnic minority groups. She encouraged empowering young people in STEM fields, which she believes are essential for promoting creativity and innovation.
The Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat also spoke about Vietnam’s transition to a growth model based on science, technology, and innovation. He outlined three key tasks to promote creativity and innovation: raising awareness about their role in socio-economic development, developing a national innovation system, and launching innovation activities in 2024. This ceremony marked the third year that the Ministry of Science and Technology organized an event to respond to World Creativity and Innovation Day with the aim of raising awareness and promoting innovation activities.
The event included a scientific conference on innovation activities and creative startups, discussing the current status of innovation in Vietnamese businesses, policies for ecosystem development, and tools for measuring innovation at the industry level. Tamesis believes that promoting creativity and innovation among young people and businesses is crucial for Vietnam to continue growing as a center for innovation in the region.
