Meta’s Median Employee Pay: A Look at Compensation in Big Tech
Meta, the tech giant formerly known as Facebook, has reported a median employee pay of just over $379,000 in 2023. This figure is higher than the average tech job but in line with what Google and Amazon pay their employees. While software engineers and researchers tend to earn more in base pay than product designers and user experience professionals at Meta, a median salary of $379,000 is not uncommon across Big Tech. Industry giants like Google and Amazon also have positions that pay well above $300,000.
In comparison to other Big Tech companies, Meta has a large workforce of around 67,000 employees leading to a wide range in pay scales. Despite the high compensation packages for its employees, Meta has been on an efficiency drive since 2022 which has led to frequent layoffs. However, despite this, the company reported strong earnings in 2023. Despite this success, investors have remained cautious about the company’s future due to plans to increase investments in AI.
In terms of CEO compensation, Mark Zuckerberg’s total compensation package in 2023 was $24.4 million with most of it coming from security and logistical expenses. Interestingly though, Zuckerberg only took a $1 salary last year with the majority of his wealth tied to stock options.
