Harassment and Theft on Boulder Highway: Local Businesses Frustrated with Homeless Encampment
The growing homeless encampment in nearby vacant lots along Boulder Highway in Las Vegas is a major concern for local businesses. Business owners in the area are frustrated with the harassment, begging, and theft that has been taking place in the privately owned lots located near the intersection of Boulder Highway and Russell Road.
FlowerEve Gift and Home Owner Evelyn Guin reports that the homeless individuals in the area have been causing problems for her business. Customers have been deterred from visiting due to the harassment and theft, which has had a negative impact on her business.
The Duck Creek RV Park across the highway from Guin’s shop has also noticed an increase in the homeless population in the area. The Maintenance and Security Manager, Gerald, acknowledges the problem but is unsure of a solution. Metro’s Homeless Outreach Team has been offering resources to those in need, but many individuals have declined assistance.
As a result, law enforcement officers must work with Clark County Code Enforcement and property owners to address the issue. Officer Baron Bybee from Metro’s Homeless Outreach Team emphasizes the importance of conducting cleanups while also offering resources to those in need. Business owners are encouraged to stay proactive and contact either the Southeast Area Command or Metro’s Homeless Outreach Team for assistance.
Despite efforts to reach out to property owners for their plans moving forward, progress has not been made. The situation remains a challenge for local businesses and law enforcement as they work to address the growing homeless encampment along Boulder Highway in Las Vegas.
