FIDE Worlds Chess Championship Match 2024: A Battle of Champions for Two Years and a Bidding War for the Hosting Rights

The upcoming 2024 edition of the FIDE Worlds Chess Championship Match is set to determine the chess world champion for the next two years. This prestigious event is part of the FIDE World Championship Cycle and will see current world champion Ding Liren from China face off against the youngest challenger in chess history, Gukesh D from India.

Scheduled between November 20 and December 15, 2024, the World Championship Match 2024 is open for bids to host the event. Interested applicants must submit a bidding form detailing their budget breakdown and proposals for payment to FIDE by May 31, 2024. The minimum required budget for the event is 8,500,000 USD, with a minimum prize fund of 2,500,000 USD.

The regulations for the event must be approved by July 1, 2024 and have a maximum duration of up to 25 days. FIDE reserves the right to extend the deadline if necessary and may enter into additional negotiations to improve or modify bids. The final decision by FIDE will be based on all proposed conditions and the interests of chess development.
