Strengthening Health Systems to Reduce Maternal and Newborn Mortality: FIGO’s Strategic View
FIGO and IJGO have recently released a new paper titled “Global Health Systems Strengthening: FIGO’s Strategic View on Reducing Maternal and Newborn Mortality Worldwide.” This publication, written by FIGO’s Committee on Health Systems Strengthening and Respectful Care, emphasizes the importance of strengthening health systems to achieve universal healthcare coverage and reduce maternal and newborn mortality rates globally.
Over the past twenty years, significant progress has been made in reducing maternal deaths worldwide. However, disparities in maternal and perinatal health persist, especially in low-income countries and within marginalized populations in high-income countries. The article highlights the need for a thorough understanding of the factors contributing to maternal deaths to develop effective policies and health programs that address the various challenges faced by women worldwide.
FIGO is committed to promoting the health and equity of women, girls, and newborns globally. The organization is dedicated to improving maternal and perinatal outcomes, reducing healthcare disparities, and advancing research, education, advocacy, and capacity-building in obstetrics and gynecology. Health systems strengthening involves initiatives to enhance various aspects of the healthcare system, such as service delivery, workforce development, information systems, access to medicines, financing, and leadership and governance.
FIGO recognizes the importance of health systems strengthening in improving global health outcomes. As a key advocate for initiatives that aim to make a positive impact on healthcare delivery worldwide, FIGO is devoted to leading efforts to enhance health outcomes
