Rover’s Successful Sol 1249 Drive Leads to Discovery of Potential Martian Mineral Target for Further Examination
The Sol 1249 drive was a success and placed the rover in an area with numerous bright bedrock outcrops. One of these outcrops, located on the left side of the image above, has been selected as the target for dumping a sand sample and further examination over the weekend. Before this, the rover will conduct ChemCam and Mastcam observations of the bedrock target named “Kuiseb.”
Following these observations, the rover will back up slightly and then drive forward to position the large outcrop within reach of the robotic arm. Once in place, a series of images will be taken of the workspace to help select dump and contact science targets for tomorrow.
It is important to note that the dates of planned rover activities mentioned in these reports are subject to change. This is due to various factors related to the Martian environment, communication relays, and the status of the rover itself.
