Upcoming Science Café on April 3 to Showcase Dr. Sarah Wyatt and her Presentation on “Growing Plants Beyond Gravity”

Plants’ Reaction to Gravity: Unveiling the Secrets with Dr. Sarah Wyatt at Ohio University

On Wednesday, April 3 at 5 p.m., The Front Room Coffeehouse in Baker University Center will host the final Science Café event of the spring semester. This event, which will be live-streamed on YouTube, will feature Dr. Sarah Wyatt, who will deliver a presentation titled “Growing (Plants) Beyond Gravity.”

In her presentation, Dr. Wyatt, a professor in the Department of Environmental and Plant Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio University, will explore how gravity affects plant growth and development. She will discuss how gravity impacts the positioning of leaves, stems, roots, flowers, seeds, and fruits. Dr. Wyatt and her students will also showcase their research on the effects of gravity on plants, including recent experiments conducted on the International Space Station.

Dr. Wyatt’s expertise lies in studying molecular mechanisms of signaling in plant responses to gravity. Specifically, she focuses on how plants respond to this fundamental force of nature. Her work has been instrumental in advancing our understanding of plant biology and has significant implications for agriculture and food security.

The Science Café series is made possible by the support of the Ohio University Research Division and the Ohio University Chapter of Sigma Xi.
