Morningside University Launches New Animal Science Minor: Expanding Career Opportunities in Animal Health and Welfare
Starting in fall 2024, Morningside University’s School of Agriculture and Aviation will be offering a new animal science minor for students interested in careers related to animal health and welfare. This addition to the academic catalog provides students with a wider range of career opportunities and aligns with the university’s commitment to meeting the needs of the Siouxland region through innovative academic programs.
Dr. Chris Spicer, Morningside University’s provost and vice president for academic affairs, expressed excitement about the new minor, highlighting the university’s dedication to offering interdisciplinary study options that prepare students for successful careers. Dr. Tom Paulsen, the dean of the School of Agriculture and Aviation, emphasized the hands-on learning experiences and industry partnerships that the animal science minor will provide. The curriculum is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of animal biology, ethics, and the role of technology in animal science.
The animal science minor complements various majors available at Morningside University, giving students flexibility to tailor their educational experience to their career goals. The addition of animal science reflects recent enhancements within the Regina Roth Applied Agricultural and Food Studies Department, such as the construction of the Rosen Ag Center and Lags Farm – a 76-acre learning farm located near campus.
