Harvey Weinstein: From Prison to Hospital, but ‘Me Too’ Movement Continues to Shine a Light on Sexual Assault in the Workplace
Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced movie producer, is currently hospitalized in New York due to several health issues. His lawyer, Arthur Aidala, confirmed that Weinstein is at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan where he is being examined. Despite his current condition, Aidala stated that Weinstein is in good spirits and satisfied with the medical attention he is receiving after his release from prison.
Weinstein was sentenced to 16 years in prison for multiple counts of sexual assault and harassment in Los Angeles. However, this conviction was later overturned by an appeals court in New York, leading to another trial for Weinstein in the city. A spokesperson for the New York Department of Corrections confirmed that Weinstein is still in custody at Bellevue.
The ‘Me Too’ movement against Harvey Weinstein gained traction in 2017 as a platform for individuals to speak out against incidents of sexual assault and harassment, particularly in work settings. Prominent figures like Alyssa Milano, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rose McGowan, and Ashley Judd were among the first to publicly accuse Weinstein of misconduct, sparking the movement and shedding light on the prevalence of such behavior.
