Mondo Duplantis and Shelby McEwen Dominate Diamond League Meet: Breaking World Records in Xiamen, China
In the world of track and field, one athlete has been setting records left and right. Mondo Duplantis, a Swedish athlete, broke the men’s pole vault world record for the eighth time at a Diamond League meet in Xiamen, China. He cleared an impressive 6.24 meters (20 feet, 5 inches) with each new record earning him bonus money.
At the same meet, Olympic gold medalist Jasmine Camacho-Quinn from Puerto Rico won the 100m hurdles in 12.45 seconds, outperforming Bahamian Devynne Charlton by four hundredths of a second. Reigning world champion Danielle Williams from Jamaica and world record holder Tobi Amusan from Nigeria were also notable competitors in the race.
In the men’s high jump event, American Shelby McEwen emerged victorious over co-Olympic gold medalist Mutaz Barshim from Qatar by clearing 2.27 meters. Meanwhile, Australian Torrie Lewis claimed victory in the women’s shot put with a throw of 19.72 meters, besting American Chase Jackson who is also a two-time reigning world champion.
The next Diamond League event will take place in Suzhou, China and will be broadcast live on Peacock from 7-9 a.m. ET
