America’s tallest skyscraper project built to withstand tornadoes

Legends Tower: A Record-Breaking Skyscraper Set to Transform Oklahoma City’s Skyline

Oklahoma City is set to welcome a new skyscraper project, Legends Tower, which is expected to reach a height of 581 meters, surpassing the One World Trade Center by around 40 meters. This makes it the tallest building in the US and the sixth tallest in the world.

Legends Tower was initially planned to be the second tallest building in the US, but its design was revised to reach a height of 1,907 feet (581 meters) to commemorate Oklahoma’s statehood in 1907. The project will feature three smaller buildings standing at 105 meters high each, surrounding the main tower.

The project site for Legends Tower will be a parking lot near railway tracks and warehouses. Despite some challenges like financial feasibility and weather concerns such as tornadoes in Oklahoma City, Legends Tower received approval from the Oklahoma City Planning Commission. Engineers are implementing measures such as a thick concrete core and tornado-resistant windows to ensure stability and safety. Construction is planned to begin in July of this year, pending a successful city meeting on June 4.
