Use of Laparoscopic Ligation for Colon Diverticulum in a Patient with Recurrent Bleeding

Successful Endoscopic Treatment Saves Life of 63-Year-Old Man with Colon Diverticular Bleeding

Mr. Hung, a 63-year-old man, experienced symptoms of bloody stools, fatigue, pale skin, rapid pulse, and low blood pressure. After being diagnosed with colon diverticular bleeding, he was immediately admitted to Tam Anh General Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City for treatment.

Due to the difficult location of the bleeding diverticulum, doctors considered alternative treatments such as endoscopic band ligation or surgical removal of the affected colon section. However, fortunately, Mr. Hung responded well to the endoscopic treatment and his bleeding stopped within 10 minutes.

Colon diverticulitis is a common complication of colon diverticulosis, particularly in older individuals with underlying health conditions. Doctors emphasize the importance of early diagnosis and treatment for symptoms such as bloody stools, abdominal cramps, and changes in vital signs to prevent serious complications from diverticular bleeding.

In Mr. Hung’s case, the timely intervention and successful endoscopic treatment led to his recovery and discharge from the hospital after two days. It is crucial for individuals experiencing symptoms of diverticular bleeding to seek medical attention promptly to receive the necessary care and prevent potential risks associated with the condition.
