Public Health Department to Host Community Meeting on ‘Harm Reduction Services’

Harm Reduction Syringe Services Programs: Los Angeles County Invites Community Feedback at Upcoming Meeting

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is inviting residents to a community meeting to gather feedback on the harm reduction syringe services programs. The meeting will take place on March 29 from 9am to 11am at the Zev Yaroslavsky Family Support Center in Van Nuys, CA. Both in-person and virtual attendance options are available.

For those interested in attending in person, seat availability will be limited and based on a first-come, first-served basis. To register for the virtual portion of the meeting, attendees can use the provided link. Residents who cannot attend in person or wish to provide comments ahead of time can do so through a webform.

The recent City Council meeting discussed this issue and resulted in a 4-3 split vote expressing disapproval of Los Angeles County’s implementation of the program in Santa Monica. Andrew Thomas, CEO of DTSM, is satisfied with the upcoming community meeting and anticipates that it will address concerns raised by residents regarding the harm reduction syringe services program. He expects that the discussion will continue from where it left off after the recent City Council meeting.
