Celine Dion discusses hope for a miracle in her first interview about her syndrome

From Stage to Stillness: Celine Dion’s Battle with Stiff Person Syndrome and Return to Music

Celine Dion, the Grammy winner, is battling a rare neurological disease known as stiff person syndrome (SPS) that affects her ability to sing and live her daily life. In an interview with “Vogue,” she revealed that she spends five days a week in athletics, physical therapy, and vocal treatments to manage her condition.

Dion took a break from her professional commitments in December 2022 after revealing her diagnosis of SPS. Since then, she has stopped performing or going on concert tours. The singer has been working hard with a medical team to improve her health and live with the condition.

According to Dion, what helped her the most was the love and support from her family and fans, along with first-class medical care. She stated that people who suffer from SPS may not be as fortunate as she is to have access to good doctors and treatments. However, she believes that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare regardless of their financial status.

Dion cannot promise fans that she will return to live performances but said that she will continue working hard every day to improve her health. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to document her journey in a new documentary titled “Me: Celine Dion,” which will be released later this year on Prime Video (Amazon). The film will showcase over a year of footage in which Dion navigates her way through an open and authentic life while living with SPS.
