Witnesses state that two thieves burglarize a business on Chicago’s West Side and make off with an ATM

Bold Thieves Strike Again: The Latest in a Series of ATM Thefts in West Town

In the early hours of Friday morning, two thieves broke into a currency exchange in the West Town neighborhood and stole an ATM machine. The incident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of West Division Street. Chicago police were alerted to the burglary and discovered broken glass from the front door of the business upon arrival.

According to a witness, the offenders arrived at the scene and used brute force to break through the front door. They then removed the ATM machine from its location and carried it to a white van before fleeing the area. This is just one example of a growing trend of ATM thefts in the area, as several other currency exchanges have been targeted in recent months for their machines containing cash.

In January, a Jeep Cherokee was driven through the front window of a currency exchange near Roosevelt and Jefferson Street, resulting in the theft of its ATM machine. Another currency exchange on the city’s near West Side also suffered a similar fate when thieves broke through its front glass door to steal its machine containing an unspecified amount of money. The owner mentioned that this has happened multiple times before, but it is unclear if these burglaries are connected.

No one is currently in custody for this crime, and Area 3 detectives continue to investigate this incident further.
