Avoiding Disruption: UNC Health Signs Long-Term Agreement with UnitedHealthcare to Keep Care In-Network

In a move that will benefit thousands of North Carolina patients, UNC Health recently signed a long-term agreement with UnitedHealthcare, ensuring that their care remains in network at UNC clinics and hospitals. This new agreement covers patients under United’s commercial, Individual Exchange, and Medicare Advantage plans.

The previous contract was set to expire on April 1st, but the new agreement has been reached just in time to avoid any disruption to patient care. Negotiations between UNC Health and UnitedHealthcare began last year and were successfully completed this week. This new agreement follows a similar long-term contract recently announced with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.

Dr. Matt Ewend, chief clinical officer at UNC Health, stated that the new agreement will benefit patients across the state by avoiding increased costs and the stress of going out of network or finding new providers for their care. “We are thrilled to have reached an agreement with UnitedHealthcare,” said Ewend. “This partnership ensures that our patients will continue to receive high-quality care from their UNC providers.”
