WhatsApp develops its own file transfer system inspired by Quick Share and AirDrop

WhatsApp’s New ‘People Nearby’ Feature: Enhancing File Sharing Capabilities with End-to-End Encryption

Meta is currently working on a new feature for WhatsApp that will allow users to easily exchange media with people in close proximity. This feature, called ‘People Nearby’, will be included in an upcoming update of the messaging service.

With this function, users will be able to locate nearby individuals through their mobile devices and share files like photos, videos, and documents temporarily. The transfers will be conducted under end-to-end encryption without revealing phone numbers.

This development has been observed in the Android beta version of WhatsApp (v2.24.9.22) and its main features have been shared by the specialized portal WABetainfo. Meta aims to enhance the file-sharing capabilities of WhatsApp with this new feature, bringing it in line with other popular file-sharing services in the market.

While Google’s Quick Share and Apple’s AirDrop have similar functionality, this new feature for WhatsApp is unique because it focuses on exchanging media with people in close proximity. This innovation brings a new dimension to the messaging service and makes it even more versatile for users who need to easily share media with others around them.
