The US imposes sanctions on Israeli organizations connected to violence in the West Bank

US Sanctions Israeli Entities for Supporting Violent Extremists in West Bank Attacks

On Friday, the US Treasury Department announced sanctions against two Israeli entities for providing support to individuals involved in riots and attacks in the West Bank. These sanctions follow the freezing of assets for those involved in these acts last February. The organizations provided financial and material assistance to Yinon Levi and David Chai Chasdai, who were described as “violent extremists” responsible for property destruction, attacks on civilians, and violence against Palestinians.

Treasury Undersecretary Wally Adeyemo stated that these actions aim to hold those responsible accountable for their actions. The two entities sanctioned, Mount Hebron Fund for Levi and Shlom Asiraich for Chasdai, raised funds before campaigns were removed from the internet and retained by financial institutions. According to US authorities, both individuals led groups of violent extremists who sought to instill fear among the population of the West Bank by attacking civilians, threatening them to leave their homes, burning fields, and destroying property.

In addition to Levi and Chasdai, US authorities also targeted Ben-Zion Gopstein, founder, and leader of an organization whose members have committed violent acts including attacks on Palestinian civilians. The sanctions imposed by the US Administration include freezing the assets of the sanctioned individuals in the US and prohibiting transactions carried out by Americans or on US soil involving these individuals. These measures are aimed at deterring and penalizing those involved in such violent actions while promoting peace, security, and stability in the region.
